What is TOGAF?

TOGAF is a framework and method for developing, governing, and evolving Enterprise Architecture. Its name originated from The Open Group Architecture Framework, and it is maintained by The Open Group.

In simple terms, TOGAF helps an organization:

understand how it works today;
describe the future state it wants;
identify the changes needed to get there;
coordinate business, data, applications, and technology;
govern implementation without trying to design every solution centrally; and
repeat the process as strategy and circumstances change.

TOGAF is not a finished architecture, a software design notation, or a project delivery method. It is a configurable body of knowledge whose central process is the Architecture Development Method (ADM).

Read documents 00 through 03 for the foundation.

Version and scope

This handbook is aligned primarily with the TOGAF Standard, 10th Edition. The 10th Edition separates stable TOGAF Fundamental Content from topic-focused TOGAF Series Guides. Older terms still encountered in TOGAF 9.x environments are explained where useful.

This repository is an educational summary and implementation aid. It does not reproduce or replace the official standard, accredited training, or legal and regulatory advice. TOGAF is a registered trademark of The Open Group.
